ROBERT CLIFFORD HITCHCOCK
December 29, 1914 ~ October 18, 2014
Robert C Hitchcock was born at home in the Fishers Landing area of Clark County to Grace Celia Atkins and Roland Forest Hitchcock. He graduated from Union High School in 1932 and married June Cadwallader in New York, July 19, 1942.
He was employed by Crown Zellerbach-Camas for 43 years as a papermaker. He joined the US Navy immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He served on the attack aircraft carriers USS Card and USS Cabot- Fighter Squadron 29, was discharged September 1945 and became one of the "Greatest Generation".
Bob returned to the Mill Plain area to raise a family. One of his greatest loves was being a gentleman farmer. He became a volunteer fireman, fire captain and served two terms as District 4 fire commissioner. He and June enjoyed many trips to Reno with their close friends.
He was a life member of the Elks and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4278-Camas. He shared his garden with everyone, especially the children of the fireman giving away pumpkins and vegetables. As an animal lover, no stray dog or cat went without on his farm, if he did not keep them, a good home was found.
He is survived by his son Robert Hitchcock (Gail); daughter Cathy Waller (Mark); grandchildren Geoff Forgey, Kyle Forgey (Jennifer), and Kristen Grimes (Geoff); great-grandchildren, Justin and Hailee Plumb, Larken and Avery Grimes, and Zayden Forgey. He is also survived by his very close friends of the family, the Pat and Charlie Gram and Jan and Don Watts families.

He was preceded in death by his wife June; his parents and brother Donald.
A special thank you goes to the staff of the Quarry for taking special care of Bob, especially during the last few weeks. You are special and the family will be forever grateful.
Military graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Please note: "'Hitch' will be cutting his hay that day, so bring an umbrella."
